Residential update: Tuesday PM

Residential update: Tuesday PM:

We’ve had a brilliant day! Activities have gone down really well; canoeing, survivor, giant swing and fencing.

Canoeing was enjoyed by all, and included both splashing each other and, at the end, the chance to jump in. The scream in jumping in was often followed by ‘it’s freezing!’ which I do feel should fall into the common sense bracket but quite frankly, at the mid point of Resi, I’m not assuming anything any more. Fencing was an interesting one and hardly any children were poked with a sword thingy (it probably has some sort of technical name), despite their best attempts. We have saved any now-unattached digits and will send them home in suitcases, along with the soaking wet clothes from canoeing that I KNOW I asked children to hang up, but which in many rooms are laying on the floor being walked over to get to the toilet. Good luck unpacking that. For survivor, I was asked how I felt about the children using knives; you can imagine my face at that point, but I just thought well, in for a penny… and of course the giant swing was conquered by almost everyone.

Lunch was jacket potatoes or rice with chilli or cheese or other toppings and the usual selection of accompaniments. Dinner was a choice of chicken katsu curry, mac and cheese or veggie fish fingers, and again the usual extras. Many children are consuming salad and fruit alongside their mains, although I can’t promise that it’s all of them, but then you know your children! And of course there’s been much cake - thanks y6 parents.

We also went to the gift shop this lunchtime - we have ‘strongly encouraged’ all children to purchase items not edible items. Most have chosen lovely momentos. We supported those who thought their £10 might stretch to £45 worth of items, but for this I blame Ms Mendivil, not you - maths is her domain!

Tonight was a tournament outside - brilliant games and loads of fun. I did nearly fall into the lake as we walked there but not quite, you’ll be pleased to know, as those of you know know me, know that I have a track record for injuring myself on trips, so much so that Mrs Bartlett refused to write a risk assessment for me any longer.

We then had a drink and yes, more cake, before settling down to bed. A few children struggled a little more tonight as it’s not the first adrenaline-filled night and it’s not the last, but with extra support and encouragement all were still asleep around 10pm or not long after. I think a few more bedtime hugs were taken up on tonight as well.

Here’s hoping for no 2am card games tonight. Trust me, they have been warned. Fingers crossed for a quiet night!

I’ve attached some photos of the site for you.
