Residential update: Monday evening
Twas the first night of resi, and all through the corridor, was..... SLEEPING CHILDREN! We would like an award as I think this is one of the earliest times of recent years. I am not sure they are all completely asleep but all rooms are quiet. We have had one nosebleed, one stubbed toe (turns out when we suggest cases are moved out of the way of the route to the toilet, it's actually good advice) and not much else. Now we wait and see if they stay asleep...
Activities this afternoon were wet-ish but not enough to have caused trenchfoot. Archery was successful, and by successful I mean no children were hit by arrows. Zip wire was the more popular session of the afternoon for almost all children as you'd expect!
The dinner choices were fish fingers and wedges, chicken tomato and pasta sauce or plain pasta or a mixture of all. There was free access to the salad bar which many children got stuck into, and a lovely cake for pudding. Ms Mendivil experienced spoon-gate (no spoons for those that had jelly) but did find some eventually, for our children and also another random child who just really needed a spoon. All children ate really well, so if you were worried about this, you can relax.
Evening activities consisted of a range of games played in teams - quote of the night was 'I know the answer - Mount Everest was invented in Nepal'... I mean, some of that sentence is right. The last game of the session was who could stand one one foot for the longest, and this is where we discovered that some children have the strangest talents! We stopped this at 5 minutes, so that we didn't reach the dreaded '6,7'.... I speak from the heart when I say that '6,7' may be the reason that we leave some children behind on Thursday.
We had some corridor time (time to sit and chat with people not in our rooms) before settling down to lights out at 9pm. Bedtime cuddles were offered by all adults and taken up by most, with some electing for fist bumps or high fives instead, and some for all three! Negotiations on leaving ensuite lights on were made and children settled down pretty quickly. I'm writing this just before 10, so I reckon that's not bad for first night.
Now to try and sleep ourselves. And then wake them all at 6.30am!

P.S. there are now countless pants on bedroom floors. so the lack of this didn't last sadly. Room inspection tomorrow should be interesting...
